This is a vintage C.G. Conn “Transitional” baritone saxophone with “Naked Lady” engraving, serial number 259119. These baritones are exceptional free blowing players and have one of the sweetest sounds around.
The great response allows for a lot of flexibility and expression while playing. This one in particular plays with a clear brilliance while keeping an ultra full and robust foundation. The “Transitional” is a low Bb baritone showcasing the Chu berry vintage finger nail file G# key and table key cluster as well as a large X bell to body brace. This series of saxophones was also made with out a front F key.
The pictures of this saxophone tell its story very well. It was re-lacquered in the past and has been played on very actively its entire life. The saxophone has received a decent amount of past body and solder repair. At this time many dings still remain. It does feature all of the original key work as well as the original neck.
This sax came into our shop playing up a storm on a mix of older pads and materials. At this time it is playing with a great sound and response. But, due to the age of the pads and the years it has been since the sax was thoroughly serviced it is ultimately going to need to be mechanically overhauled before it will be considered “perfect” for extensive playing. Because it is playing nicely at the moment and the long line in our repair shop, we are selling this one in as is condition at a much lower price point.
Saxophone ships in as is condition in a wood hard case.
