This is an old Martin Committee III alto sax dating back to 1948, serial number 166461. This alto was relacquered a long time ago but done extremely well; the work would fool most people I think, though there are a couple tells if you know what to look for. The “newer” lacquer is in exceptional shape, and the sax looks great from top to bottom. The only knock against it is the pads are old, and well past use. We are selling it as-is, and it will need a repad before it is ready to play.
As you can see in the photos, the horns looks fantastic. Virtually no buffing was done one the bell, and the original factory engraving remains crisp and clean all around. One foot of the low Eb keyguard has been resoldered, but I see no other previous repairs and no past dent trauma. Just a couple tiny pings here and there from honest use. It has its original neck with matching serial number, and the neck has never been pulled down or damaged.
The current pad job is at least 50 years old, and they aren't getting the job done anymore. We are selling the sax as-is at a low price, so if you'll have room to get your local tech to do the work, or if you have a repair bench at home and dabble in repair, you should have no problem pulling this one off, as it should be a pretty straight forward job, needing pads, material, and minor key fitting.
